US Supreme Court
After reviewing the History.com article and watching the videos on the Supreme Court (Part I & Part II) I learned a lot of fascinating, new information about the United States's court system. Some new things that I learned about The Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) is that they review every case themselves. I thought that would be something that was reviewed by someone lower than them and then sent to the justices if that was something they thought would be of interest. I also was not aware that the number of justices has changed over the years. I thought this would be something that would be consistent over time.
It is important to note how influential and essential the SCOTUS is to the U.S. government. They make sure to keep the other branches of government in check and make sure that what they are doing aligns with the Constitution. This power protects the people in the United States and makes sure that the government does not abuse their power. The most surprising thing that I learned was about the opinions. I did not understand how lengthy and how many drafts can come from this one document. The video changed how I viewed the SCOTUS because before I saw them as higher ups who have too much power that they could abuse. Now I see them more as protectors of the citizen's rights.
